Your vendors helped you move in.
Nobody helps you check the way out.
The imbalance
Snowflake and Databricks offer free migration tools to move in. Neither offers the tool that checks you can move out.
The pressure
DORA requires financial entities to have a tested exit plan. In France, data transfer when switching cloud providers already costs €0. In January 2027, all other switching charges go away too (except custom-built services). The exit work does not go away.
The hidden risk
An exit plan on paper has never been executed. Its duration, its cost and its gaps stay unknown until the day you need it.
- January 17, 2025DORA applies: a realistic exit plan, reviewed and tested, for every ICT contract that supports a critical function.
- September 12, 2025The Data Act applies: cloud contracts must provide for exit.
- December 1, 2025France: data transfer charges for switching providers are capped at €0 (SREN law, order of November 17, 2025).
- January 12, 2027No more cloud switching charges. The exit work stays on you.
